Debriefing at the European Parliament
on the Parliamentary Elections in Armenia
On January 21, a debriefing on the recent snap parliamentary elections in Armenia took place at the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs.
MEP Heidi Hautala, the head of the EP's Elections Observation Mission to elections in Armenia stated that these elections were held with respect for fundamental freedoms and they enjoyed broad public trust. "You can imagine what a delightful event it was to be there" she said.

Meeting with the Armenian National Assembly delegation

On January 29, after the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly meeting, the President of the EAFJD Kaspar Karampetian and the executive director Heghine Evinyan held a meeting with the members of the Armenian delegation headed by MP Mkhitar Hayrapetyan.  
During the meeting, the EAFJD reaffirmed its readiness to fully support the Armenian National Assembly delegations in their upcoming missions in Brussels and Strasbourg. Read here (in Armenian)

Acts of vandalism & Armenophobia in the US

On January 29, Turkish nationalists attacked two Armenian schools in an act of vandalism in Los Angeles, California. Several Turkish flags were hung both at Holy Martyrs Ferrahian Armenian High School and AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School. 
Vandalizing an Armenian school, where children were supposed to attend their classes just hours after this demonstration of Hate Crime, is yet another form of Armenophobia  Read here

The newly formed Armenian delegation at the Euronest 

On January 28 - 29, Armenia's National Assembly delegation took part in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly meeting.During the session numerous important issues were addressed regarding the relations between the Eastern Partnership countries and the European Union, in particular economic integration, legal approximation and convergence with EU polices, social affairs, employment, education, culture and civil society The EAFJD representatives were also present at the European Parliament to support the delegation.  Watch here (in Armenian)
Conference on Armenophobia at the European Parliament
On the 6th of March MEP Dr. Eleni Theocharous hosts a conference at the European Parliament entitled“Armenophobia: historical and present-day resurgence”. Co-organised by the EAFJD and the Tufenkian Foundation, the conference will examine the phenomenon from different angles, provide a comprehensive picture of various interconnected aspects as well as the ways of combating it. It will be featuring prominent representatives of academia, including historians, political scientists, journalists, human rights defender/activists and witnesses.Register here
